Dear Ride Drive,
I have just bought a 1997 4.0 Chimaera, with 12,000 miles on the clock, from a friend who had it from new. I have two problems with it.
Firstly there is a horrible noise coming from the near side rear quarter when I open one of the doors. It does it which ever door I open first regardless as to whether I open from the inside or out. It also does it when I unlock it with the alarm fob and can only be described as a very loud farting sound!!! Is it some kind of electrical solenoid that is located here? Even so, why does it only happen when I open the first door and not the second, and when completed in any order ?
Secondly, one of the two alarm fobs does not work. Where can I get a new one? They have TVR on the button but no clue as to who makes them.
Many thanks
Paul

Paul,
This is an easy one to answer.

The strange noise will be one of the locking solenoids that has stripped its rack and pinion gearing system. There are 2 solenoids in each rear quarter and one of these has worn out and is making the noise.

With regard to the alarm fob, keys can be ordered against the 16 digit key number that will be on the red plastic tag that came with the car when it was new. This number should be in the owner’s manual as well. If Paul would like to email the details to us we can order a replacement.
Hope this helps
All the best
