Allocated Time: 4–Hours 1:1
Content: On–Road Performance Car Driver Training Inc. 1–Hour Car Conrtol Session

Introduction

The Half–day Advanced Driving Experience and Car Control programme is a 4–hour on–road driver training activity. It is punctuated by a 1–hour car control session at one of our approved hard–surface driving venues.

Available in limited areas of the UK mainland, this one to one driving experience is an opportunity of get to know your car better and to sample from a range of superbly effective public road driving strategies.

This is a shorter version of our widely acclaimed Full–Day Advanced Driving and Car Control Experience, product code S03PM–HP.

Format of the Programme

Your session begins at the agreed meeting point with your Ride Drive advanced driving specialist. After a brief discussion to confirm the aims and objectives of the day the road driving activities begin.

This is where you begin to develop your application of an advanced system of car control that forms the foundation of the driving style we promote and which provides you with a set of strategies with which to deal with all you are likely to encounter.

As you make your way to the intended off–road driving site you will be guided over a route on public roads that will have been specially chosen to provide you with the best development opportunities.

We tend to stay away from major trunk roads and motorways, unless otherwise requested, using the B–roads and back lanes instead. These are much more fun and help you to learn much more about good car cotnrol skills too.

The Half–Day Performance Car Driving and Car Control Experience is available in many regions of the UK, including Saffron Waldon, Ipswich, Northampton, Woking, Crawley, Cardiff, Nuneaton and Slough. Click on the map above for full list of available start points.

The Car Control Session

At the private driving venue you begin the session with a short safety briefing and a familiarisation tour of the facility. A programme of activities then begins, building from relatively simple manoeuvres to more technical applications of the car.

The purpose of the exercises will be to help you develop an understanding of the effects you have upon your car when you drive it by the manner in which you operate the driving controls. This is where you learn to feel the car as you drive it, as wherever possible, any electronic driving aids are switched off.

We talk about the drive configuration of your car, whether it be front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and about the adverse effects this may have upon its behaviour if not driven with understanding.

Everything we practice here has a direct relationship with how you make safe progress on the public road and is not a track day. The venues we visit for the car control sessions tend to be disused airfields and which are not accessible by the general public. We avoid the use of motorsport track venues, as the risk of car damage is too high.

The manoeuvres you will be asked to complete may cause some minor tyre scrubbing, but as we are very conscious it is your pride and joy you are driving, the activities should not hurt the car.

Following the completion of the car control session you rejoin the public road, and again over a specifically chosen route, you may your way back to the start point. This is when you begin to realise a more harmonious relationship with your car and be more in tune with it.

Off road manoeuvring and car control sessions are completed at risk assessed venues that are closed to the general public, so as to remove the activities from the unpredictibility of a public road environment. Standard road speeds will not be exceeded.
