2–Day On–Road Advanced Driving & Car Control
Red line used as underline to heading, 2-Day On-Road Advanced Driving and Car Control

Allocated Time: 2x8–Hours 1:1
Content: On–Road Performance Car Driver Training, Including 1–Hour Car Control Programme
Options: Driver Risk Assessment For Discount Car Insurance

Introduction

The Two–Day Performance Car Advanced Driving and Car Control Experience is a full two–day one–to–one on–road driver training package that incorporates a 1–hour session of car control activities at an off–road driving venue. It is the equivulent of the Full–Day On–Road Advanced Driving Experience and the Full–Day with Car Control Experience, but bolted together as one complete cost saving package.

Available only in selected areas of the UK mainland, this one to one driving experience is completed with an atmosphere of a recreational event. It is an opportunity of enlightenment to share with your car, giving you a range of superbly effective public road driving strategies.

The two dates that make up this programme do not need to be completed consecutively. In fact, there is a lot of advantage in you splitting them apart, as this will provide the opportunity for you to practice and develop the driving skills you will have been given during day–one. When you come back for day–two you can hit the ground running.

Format of the Programme

You meet your Ride Drive advanced driving specialist with your car at the pre-arranged meeting point where a short discussion will take place to confirm the aims and objectives of the day. A telephone conversation with your trainer will already have taken place and so it will be known what you want to get from the day.

Once on the road, you will become familiar with an advanced system of car control, which may be very different to the method by which you currently drive. This will form the foundation of your new driving style and will always be attuned to the car you drive and the road environment you are driving within.

The Two–Day Performance Car Advanced Driving Experience is available in many regions of the UK, including Watford, Slough, Bedford, Gloucester, London, Cardiff and Newcastle. Click on the map above for full list of available start points.

You will be guided over a route on public roads that will have been specially chosen to provide you with the best development opportunities. You will gain an understanding of how to make safe progress on the road in a manner that will no draw negative attention to yourself whilst exploiting the performance attributes of the car.

We tend to stay away from major trunk roads and motorways, unless otherwise requested, using the B–roads and back lanes instead. Some of the roads are very technical and quite difficult to drive up to the speed limit and where precision will be key.

The Car Control Session

During one of the two dates you will be visiting a hard surface off-road driving. A short safety briefing and a familiarisation tour of the facility is required before a programme of activities begin. Building from relatively simple manoeuvres you will have the opportunity to progress to more technical applications of the car.

The purpose of the exercises are to help you develop an understanding of the effects you have upon your car when you drive it by the manner in which you operate the driving controls. This is where you learn to feel the car as you drive it, as wherever possible, any electronic driving aids are switched off.

We talk about the drive configuration, whether it be front–wheel drive, rear–wheel drive or four–wheel drive, and about the adverse effects this may have upon its behaviour if the car is not driven with understanding.

Everything we practice here has a direct relationship with how you make safe progress on the public road and is not a track day. The venues we visit for the car control sessions tend to be disused airfields and which are not accessible by the general public. We avoid the use of motorsport track venues, as the risk of car damage is too high.

The manoeuvres you will be asked to complete may cause some minor tyre scrubbing, but as we are very conscious it is your pride and joy you are driving, the activities should not hurt the car.

Please note, this driving programme does not involve a track day, participation in a motorsport event, time trial, speed driving activity or any form of competitive driving.

Off road manoeuvring and car control sessions are completed at risk assessed venues that are closed to the general public, so as to remove the activities from the unpredictibility of a public road environment. Standard road speeds will not be exceeded.

Following the completion of the car control session you rejoin the public road. Again, over a specifically chosen route, you make your way back to the start point.

The factor that will decide whether you complete the car control programme during day–one or day–two may well be that of airfield availability and how that ties in with ours. Whatever the case, the non–car control day will be an intense programme of advanced driving skills development, adding high value to the overall outcome.

Who Should Complete This Option

This advanced driver training option is best suited to those who driver powerful sports cars or high performance saloons and who wish to make a worthwhile investment into developing their road driving and car control skills. The activities and training hours will certainly make a significant upgrade to ability and driver safety, and will ultimately return a high yeild in the enjoyment of performance car ownership.

The Two–Day Advanced Driving Experience with Car Control does not demand the completion of another Ride Drive catalogue option beforehand. There will need to be some flexibility, as owing to the limited availability of off–road driving surfaces, the Ride Drive customer may have to travel further to be within reach of those facilities.
