8–Hour On–Road Advanced Driving and Car Control
Red line used as underline to heading, 8 Hour on road Advanced Driving and Car Control

Allocated Time: 8–Hours 1:1
Content: On–Road Performance Car Driver Training, Including 1–Hour Car Control Programme
Options: Driver Risk Assessment For Discount Car Insurance

Introduction

The full–day Advanced Driving Experience and Car Control programme is an 8–hour day of one–to–one on–road driver skills development punctuated by a 1–hour car control session at one of our approved hard–surface driving venues. It is our most popular catalogue option and especially appeals to those with sports cars and other high performance cars.

Available only in selected areas of the UK mainland, this one to one driving experience is completed with an atmosphere of a recreational event. It is an opportunity of enlightenment to share with your car, giving you a range of superbly effective public road driving strategies.

The activities of the day really do take the relationship between driver and car to a deeper level. By the end of the programme you become more than a driver of your performance car, you actually become another of its well–tuned working components.

Format of the Programme

Your day starts with meeting your Ride Drive advanced driving specialist at the agreed location where a brief discussion will take place to confirm the aims and objectives of the day. Once on the road you will develop your application of an advanced system of car control that will form the foundation of your new driving style.

The Full–Day performance car advanced driving and car control experience is available in almost all regions of the UK, including Leatherhead, Guildford, Cheltenham, Leicester, Birmingham, Sutton and London. Click on the map above for full list of available start points.

As you make your way to the intended off–road driving site you will be guided over a route on public roads that will have been specially chosen to provide you with the best development opportunities. We tend to stay away from major trunk roads and motorways, unless otherwise requested, using the B–roads and back lanes instead.

The Car Control Session

At the private driving venue you begin the session with a short safety briefing and a familiarisation tour of the facility. A programme of activities then begins, building from relatively simple manoeuvres to more technical applications of the car.

The purpose of the exercises will be to help you develop an understanding of the effects you have upon your car when you drive by the manner in which you operate the driving controls. This is where you learn to feel the car as you drive, as wherever possible, any electronic driving aids are switched off.

We talk about the drive configuration of your car, whether it be front–wheel drive, rear–wheel drive or four–wheel drive, and about the adverse effects this may have upon its behaviour if not driven with understanding.

Everything we practice here has a direct relationship with how you make safe progress on the public road and is not a track day. The venues we visit for the car control sessions tend to be disused airfields and which are not accessible by the general public. We avoid the use of motorsport track venues, as the risk of car damage is too high.

The manoeuvres you will be asked to complete may cause some minor tyre scrubbing, but as we are very conscious it is your pride and joy you are driving, the activities should not hurt the car.

Please note, this driving programme does not involve a track day, participation in a motorsport event, time trial, speed driving activity or any form of competitive driving.

Off road manoeuvring and car control sessions are completed at risk assessed venues that are closed to the general public, so as to remove the activities from the unpredictibility of a public road environment. Standard road speeds will not be exceeded.

Following the completion of the car control session you rejoin the public road, and again over a specifically chosen route, you make your way back to the start point. It is during the closing stages of this second half of the programme you can experience how driver and machine can become as one.

Who Should Complete This Option

The full-day Advanced Driving Experience with Car Control option is best suited to the performance car driver, or sports car driver, who is looking to really get under the skin of their vehicle. It is for people who are passionate about driving and wish to invest in their enthusiasm for driving a powerful car.

A high performance car deserves high performance skills from its driver and by completion of this advanced driving experience option, significant steps are made towards achieving that.

The full–day Advanced Driving Experience with Car Control does not demand the completion of another Ride Drive catalogue option beforehand. Also, with a limited number of suitable venues at which to complete the car control sessions, in some cases there may be a little more travelling involved to meet us.
