Memories of the The Police SD1 Rover V8 Patrol car

I'm a little too young to have driven the SD1s first time around but I certainly remember being impressed by the looks of the cars.

 I have actually driven a couple of them in the early 1990s. I assume that the ones that actually lived that long must have been nursed by loving owners.

I still remember the very flexible 3528i engine (with twin plenum chambers in the Vitesse derivative).

Possibly the best of the bunch was the 2000 S with the paltry little O-series four cylinder engine. Simply because it was truly incapable of achieving enough pace to get any driver into difficult situation without a concerted effort on the driver's behalf.

Even so, they're best remembered  rather than driven.

Why anyone would have bothered with an SD1 in the 1980's when Vauxhall's excellent Senator was available is beyond me. Even now the early 1990's Senators with the 24v V6 make superbly comfortable and swift machines.
