It was in the mid 1930's the UK driving test appeared. Before that, anyone could jump in a car and drive.

Over the years since then the acceleration in vehicle technology has spiralled, but despite the phenomenal rate of growth in car performance, we as a species all think we can keep up with it as drivers, and without taking part in any further training.  What's more, we will even actively resist any attempted persuasion to submit to more advanced driver training with the end result that many a driver will be outclassed and outdriven by their own car.

Interesting article. When you see how crap the standard of driving instruction is these days you do wonder about where it is all going to lead to. And I guess those in the know will say the standard of driving instructors these days is better than back then.

Therefore anyone who passed their test 50 years ago and hasn't done any more training should have their lisense taken off them  Evil

I'll tell you where it is all going to lead and that is we won't one day be allowed to drive our cars.  It will be like jet airliners.  I was watching a program the other night that had Jeremy Clarkson on it and he was in the cockpit of a jet passenger plane as it landed at an airport.  He was talking about how these things are flown by computers now, and have taken the human right out of the loop so that the pilot is a spectator.  That's how cars will be soon, and the main reason will be that humans can't be trusted to drive the vehicle themselves.
